Happiness Wednesday: Positive Thinking

(image: via)

Hello everyone,

Happy Wednesday! I must confess that this week it has been a struggle to think positively however I would like to spread some happiness and feel happy too!

So....

Positive thinking is vital for a healthy mind and soul. Visualise a time when you were at your most happiest and carry it with you all day, keep referring back to that image. Let it fill you with joy and know that you can create your future and you have the power to change your life, and become joyful again.

Divert your mind with happy thoughts! You could make a happiness mantra ' e.g. happiness, peace, joy' that you say to yourself every morning, write out in your journal or just think when things are going wrong.

Listen to calming music- I recommend India Arie. Her lyrics and melodies are inspiring and heart warming.

If you find yourself thinking a negative thought, replace it with a positive thought. Why waste time on the negative when you could be focusing on your blessings?

Positive thinking can be a struggle, but you can change your mindset. That doesn't mean thinking sad and negative thoughts is wrong, but if you find yourself thinking them too much, switch to thoughts of happiness and peace. Your heart will thank you for it.

Have a happy Wednesday- remember, calming music, happiness mantra, visualisation and happy thoughts. Write out your thoughts in a journal and challenge them on paper.

Love

Happiness Wednesday: Overcoming Fears.

Dear friends,

(image: blog)

Today is Happiness Wednesday again! The weeks are going so fast..

'I will face my fear . I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. When the fear has gone... only I will remain'- Frank Herbert

Today is a very happy day because I have managed to overcome certain fears that had been holding me back in my life. I never believed that I could get rid of a fear that was at one point- a real phobia and making my life quite difficult. It took a while, many months and reading and following specific books and ideas (mainly using distraction of the mind) to get over this phobia. To desensitise myself and make myself stronger and happier. My friends have been a huge bed rock of support too.

And so yesterday I was able to kick the phobias butt :P and just have a happy and enjoyable day with friends, frolicking in a beautiful town called Windsor outside London where the Queen has a home! (castle), walking through trees and pathways, viewing the castle and hills and of course visiting fudge shop and my favourite place in the world- Cath Kidston!.

So i want to reach out to anyone reading this who also suffers any type of anxiety or phobia- because you can and will get there. I honestly thought my anxiety would hold me back forever but it hasnt ! I've worked on it slowly over many months to get better and I would say i'm 95 percent there. There are days when I have bad days and days when I have good days, you just have to feel it, go with it and above all... distract your mind so those thoughts and sensations don't flood in.

If you are feeling fearful- remember- you are the one in control. And if you have a good support network, you can do anything. I was taught that even if you don't have a good support network- you must rely on you.You are stronger and more capable than you could ever imagine.

I send you love and happy thoughts today.

Happiness Wednesday: Joy in the Little Things.

(image: vi.sualize.us)

Today I'm going to talk about finding joy, peace and contentment with the small things in life, with the little details we surround ourselves with every day but may not notice because we are too busy to appreciate them.

My friend in Ghana sent me this wonderful quote last night which I thought summed up Happiness Wednesday to a tee,

'God, give me joy in the simple things'

(image:Katarina Ailic)

As really its the simple things in life that we should love and appreciate. Our bed, having a roof over our head, that flower growing by the sidewalk, being able to see and hear the wonders of the world, connecting with the world over the internet, birdsong, babies babbling, a butterfly flying on a plant or bees buzzing and making honey. The friends, partner or family you have in your life.

When we stop to appreciate our world and its beauty, we find joy.

May you have a joyful, peaceful and contented Wednesday.

Here's a few things that boost my mood:

1. Putting on make up and prettifying
2. Going for walks in nature and noticing flowers and beauty around me
3. Chatting to a friend especially ones that make me giggle
4. Listen to music i love
5. Go to the cinema or theatre.
6. Talk to my sister and have a gossip!

Happiness Wednesday: Friendship

Dear friends,

Today is Happiness Wednesday again :) One of my favourite times in the week. No longer Hump day, but Happiness day.

Last week I blogged about relaxation tips- natural relaxants like chamomile tea, lavender oil and hot baths. This week I am going to talk about a totally different topic but just as important. Friendship.

We all know that having good and supportive friends is essential to our wellbeing and overall happiness. It has been proven that seeing friends face to face makes us feel happier, something that online contact (although wonderful) does not stimulate in the same way.

Susan Jeffers in her book 'The Little book of Confidence' talks about 'Higher Self Friends'. The 'Higher Self' is the you at your best- the positive you who praises yourself, connected to goodness and spirituality. She says that we must surround ourselves with friends who promote this image:

'Ask yourself if they are 'be careful (lower self) friends or 'Go for It' (higher self) friends' - Susan Jeffers

A Go For It friend will encourage you to move forward with your life, be supportive and promote your own wellbeing without warning of constant failure.

Surround yourself with positive people in your life. This tends to come as your own confidence grows.

Laughing with friends is truly my favourite medicine. How about you?

Have a very happy Wednesday!

Happiness Wednesday: Relaxation.

Hello friends,

Today on Happiness Wednesday I'm going to focus on relaxation.

We all live such busy and hectic lives that sometimes it can overpower us and we can feel stressed out, overwhelmed and unhappy. Hands up if you feel like that a lot?
I've found through reading various books, some tips that I'd like to share with you to make you feel a little more relaxed! They work for me and I hope they'll work for you.

Natural relaxants

After a long day of maybe being in front of a computer, stressed out, feeling stiff in your body, the best natural relaxants are the following:

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is a natural sedative and calming sleep aid. You can drink it during the day, but not too much or it will make you too sleepy. I find that if i drink a cup before bed with some sugar to sweeten it, thats the best time. It helps me relax. But remember- don't drink too many cups!

Lavender Oil

I havn't tried this yet but the smell of lavender is said to be calming. Thats why it is put in a lot of bath oils to relax you after a long day. You can put droplets of lavender oil on your pillow at night time to naturally aid sleep and calm the mind.

Hot baths before bed.

Relaxes your muscles and makes you feel nice and sleepy. It is said the change in body temperature is what helps you to feel drowsy and relaxed. Add some candles and of course delicious smelling bath oils and youre ready to go!

Walking in Nature

Walking outside appreciating nature helps to calm and heal the mind. Focusing on flowers, trees and the beauty around you can divert your mind, increase happiness and decrease stress levels.

Other relaxants may include yoga, massage, meditation, journalling before bed. I often find writing peaceful mantras before bed to calm my mind or when I wake up in the morning to ease anxious thoughts to be of great benefit.

How do you relax and have you found any of these methods to be helpful?

Have a happy Wednesday!xx
