Sleepless and Beautiful.

'There are hours without sleep which is not to say that they're sleepless, because on the contrary, they're not about lack of anything, they're rich and full. Desires, memories, fears, passions form labyrinths in which we lose and find and then lose ourselves again. They are hours when anything is possible, good or bad'- Bernhard Schlink.

This quote is from the most beautiful book I read about a year ago, 'The Reader' by Bernhard Schlink. He is a wonderful writer. I also find it quite relevant to my life because there are times when its hard to get to sleep because my mind is whirring, or worrying or dreaming... How about you?

  1. I love The Reader! This happens to me too, it's like I can't switch off. I have so many thoughts whirring around and as soon as I lie down, they all come to the front!

  2. I'm so glad you posted this as it was very relevant for me last night! It took me ages to get to sleep cause i was so nervous about whether or not i got the job i had an interview for. I was tossing and turning for hours!! Turns out it was for good seeing as i got a call today saying they wanted me in to meet the regional manager. Love the quote!

  3. I'm too exhausted! As soon as my head hits the pillow I am out like a light.

Most of my thinking nowadays is done on the toilet. I used to do a lot of thinking in the bath, but now I feel too guilty being away from Henry for too long.

  4. I hate those nights when you can't sleep because your mind just won't stop thinking! There is nothing better than a night of good rest in my opinion!

  5. I am exactly the same!

And I love that book :) My favorite part is where he said: "I wanted simultaneously to understand Hanna's crime and to condemn it. But it was too terrible for that. When I tried to understand it, I had the feeling I was failing to condemn it as it must be condemned. When I condemned it as it must be condemned, there was no room for understanding."

He is such a wonderful writer

  6. oh yes, definitely! for the worrying times i get up and write. i jot down lists of everything i'm afraid of forgetting, or i just do some free writing of all my thoughts so i can get them out of my head. for the daydreaming, i usually just sit back and enjoy it. although if i really need to get to sleep, i'll try meditating and deep breathing in bed. that calms my mind enough to sleep. plenty of sleep is so important, but i also get a lot of epiphanies after i've laid down in bed, so i've learned to let my mind wander where it wants in those times.
