Wintery thoughts... :)

 (image: bridessanstulle.com)

Hi everyone! Its been so long since I've written on here.... I've been quite busy but after being inspired by my friend Anna at Little Reminders of Love, I thought that I would write a blog post and hopefully try and keep writing more regularly. I hope all of you, my lovely readers have been well!

Drama school has been going well, its been challenging with ups and downs but Ive met some fantastic people and you don't get anything without effort and those challenges!

Here are some beautiful wintery pictures I love....

And while we sit either battling wind and rain in the UK or feeling cold outside, let us remember the beautiful things of winter:

-The snuggling up in blankets
- The warm wearing of bed socks!
- The being inside when snow falls and watching it... or going outside and playing in it with friends
- The wintery scents of pine needles
- Warm baths
- Being with those you love.

Happy winter Blogosphere!

Drama School Update.

Hi everyone! So much is happening in my life right now and I'm fulfilling all my dreams of being in a drama and theatre environment again, and learning to teach drama.

I am at Central School of Speech and Drama in London and I started this October. Ive met amazing, passionate people from all over the world who love theatre and want to be immersed in it. They want to do workshops to grow as practitioners, go to theatre shows to improve their knowledge :). Its great.

I have a lovely supervisor and I've met some fab people already. My placement has started at a company called Artburst who run theatre workshops for children, building confidence and self esteem. Im so excited. I am also working with Time2Shine productions, on a play for children. I hope that I get what I want out of the placements and that they are as exciting as I hope! That they teach me how I can learn and grow as a drama teacher and maker of theatre.

I started work at Art burst, a little company that runs integrated arts workshops for children. It runs very interesting projects with under 5s, those with speech and language difficulties, they make a 'play in a day' where the children create their own costumes and props, run workshops at the Museum of Childhood. A very fascinating company.

I observed a little workshop with the under 5s today, 'Artburst Minis'. It was so sweet! There were four children with their mums, and the workshop was based on a  farm theme. The children played parachute games, learnt about colour, sang farm songs, painted mouse masks, coloured in pictures of mice and painted pictures of haystacks, danced, read a story about a farm and wore puppets of the animals and just had lots of fun! They had snack time at the end. It was so nice to see how engaged the children were with all the different media, and how some grew in confidence when at the beginning of the session they felt a little shy. It was sweet to see the children reaching out to each other and becoming friends, and I think the mums enjoyed it too!

This week was really great at university! On Thursday, came in to watch a performance of 'Three Blind Mice', a forum theatre piece by Cardboard Citizens. Cardboard Citizens are a theatre company whose actors have all experienced homelessness, and they create pieces for homeless hostels and the general public. The aim is to provoke change in its audience, using Augusto Boal's method of forum theatre, where the spectator is turned into the spect-ACTOR. The audience forums an issue in order to find the best resolution to the problem and get them thinking about changes in their own lives.

Three Blind Mice contained three basic stories. The first was of an abusive friendship, the second a young black man out of prison trying to rebuild his life and avoiding temptation, and the third a woman with significant mental health issues. Our audience chose to forum the second story, to find resolution to the mans problems. I loved seeing how the theatre company performed and used forum in their work. It was great to see the function of the Joker, and how they interacted with the audience.

On Friday, I had a session on Boal. I have already studied his practise on my BA, however it was great to play games to open up the body and make it expressive and receptive to noise and sensation, bringing up our energy and making us feel vulnerable/oppressed. Boals Theatre of the Oppressed is about making social change for those who are oppressed. We therefore workshopped some image theatre, using still tableaus of our own oppression and trying to find an end image, the resolution and a transitional image. Our tableau was of a woman protecting two other women from threatening, aggressive men. The audience interpreted the two women as children being protected by a mother which was an interesting take. I was one of the children.

I had to leave at that point, however the class went on to do some Forum Theatre, I believe of the still tableaus created.

Has been a great week and I look forward to next weeks placement and study!

Love to you all xxxxxxx

The great magnitude of it all .. x

 (image:kiksu.deviantart.com)
'The sun started to reappear a couple of minutes later, slowly, of course until colour once again saturated the sea and our faces, and birdsong filled the air, songs this time of joy, of relief. Cheers rang out from the cliff tops and the ra ta ta ta of applause. Yet we were all quiet for so long after, touched by the magnitude, the beautiful unfathomable magnitude of it all. This is what we are connected to. What we are all connected to. When the lights go out, so do we.'- Sarah Winman. (from When God was a Rabbit)

Hello my lovelies. How are you?? I feel like I have been away for the blog world a little longer than normal so havn't caught up with how you are!

Today I am going to recommend the book 'When God was a Rabbit' by Sarah Winman. The book is about the love between brother and sister, families and the bonds that strengthen us in life, from childhood through to the rest of our lives . The writing is fluid and magical, quite whimsical and makes me smile.....and the quote above in particular draws my heart.

Happy Monday/Tuesday

I started Drama School! :)

(image:via)
 Hello friends,

How are you all?

This week I properly started at drama school in London  (picture above!) where I am doing a Masters degree in Applied theatre. Applied theatre is using drama in community settings and educational places to change peoples lives and make a difference. Its as broad as a description as working in homeless shelters, with disabled children, in schools......I love theatre and want to use it to make a change. We have placements organised by the school too.

I have been overwhelmed meeting new people from all over the world- Finland, Norway, USA, Greece, Italy, Hong Kong, Ireland and the rest of UK..... :) It has been so amazing to meet other people who share that love of theatre and performance!!

How has your week been?

Beautiful Advice.

'Whenever you feel unloved, unwanted, unsure, or just not enough for anyone else, ask yourself the question: "Who Am I?" What are your passions and dreams? What awesomeness are you accomplishing every day? It turns the focus back on yourself, because you are awesome and unique and beautiful. Once you start loving yourself, there will be no room for anyone else to make you feel unloveable in any way.'- Cassy, blogger at peaceandposies.blogspot.com

Dreams, Magic and Happiness...

Keep dreaming. A big dream of mine came true today. I enrolled at drama school! When I was a little girl, I used to look in the programmes of big theatre shows at the actors and actresses pages. When I found them, I would scan the information for any knowledge of where and when they trained, the top schools so I would know where to go! Although now, I don't want to be a full time actress, but a theatre practitioner working in education instead, it still has been my biggest dream to train at a specialist school. Please God, this year will hold many beautiful challenges but be a lot of fun!

What is your dream?

Happiness Wednesday: Finding Serenity

 (image:avoiceofpraise.blogspot.com)

Dear friends,

Happy Wednesday! We're now half way through the week and I hope you are all feeling well and happy... and if not, I hope today's post will make you smile.

I often want to feel serene, at peace in my life. Finding serenity is very hard to do. Sometimes its good to have a journal to write out our thoughts, getting rid of negative ones and replacing them with positive. Having a positive mind frame is important to finding peace. How else can we find serenity?

I am reading a book on serenity at the moment which says the key to finding it is to visualise yourself in a serene environment. That could be swimming through a pool of serene water, or imagining jolts of serene energy filling your body with peaceful energy. Saying calming mantras also reinforces the effect of visualisation, 'I am calm', 'I am serene in this moment' etc. Hearing the calming words soothes our spirit and mind. The book teaches that we really can choose to react serenely in challenging situations.

This is something I struggle with. I often wonder how can I be serene when I'm in a situation that makes me feel unhappy? Sometimes though we must shut out the unhappy thoughts and replace them with a tranquility of mind.

Stress, anger, upset are all challenging emotions to overcome. It is important that we feel and live our emotions, that they come out. However, dwelling for too long on a situation we can't change makes life worse. And even if we can change it, being in a negative cycle is really not good for us at all.

One of my personal favourites is the Serenity Prayer,

'God grant me the serenity
To accept the things that I cannot change,
The courage to change the things that I can
And the wisdom to know the difference'

Being in a serene state of mind is very difficult to achieve at times and must be practised. However, just take a few minutes out of your day to practise serenity and hopefully it will come.

 (image:weheartit.com)

How do you achieve your peaceful state??

Happy Monday Lovelies!

(image:ehappyhome.wordpress.com)

Hi friends,

I'm sorry I've been away for a while now. Its been a week since my last post! So what have I been up to?

Well, last week was Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashana). This is a special festival where we look back on the past year and evaluate our aims and goals for the year to come. So please God, I will have a special, good year to come and so should you all too! I spent a lot of time eating (us Jews celebrate with food!) with family and friends, walking to see my grandma and generally having a lovely time. I also prayed in synagogue. On Rosh Hashana, we eat sweet foods to symbolise a sweet year so I ate lots of honey cake that I made with my mum! Honey cake is surprisingly delicious.....

Since Rosh Hashana ended, I have just been relaxing and sorting myself out for my masters, which starts this Thursday! Ahh! rather excited but also a little nervous too!!

And how are you all? Whats news? Write me a comment with a little heads up on how you are!!

Love as always,

Happiness Wednesday: Music and Its Beauty.

Hi everyone- Happy Wednesday!

 (image:everythingthatisdark.tumblr.com)

Today as I write to you I am filled with the sounds of reggae/ indian fusion music infused with rock/soul and reggae vocals of Joss Stone, Damian Marley and Mick Jagger! They have formed a new super group with A.R Rahman (the Indian composer of the film Slumdog Millionaire) and Dave Stewart from Eurythmics, called 'Superheavy' and they've just released their first album. Its really beautiful, very different and fills your heart with joy when you hear the different styles of music....

I find that music really can bring you to utmost joy and so this is what I'm thinking about today on Happiness Wednesday. I love music with pure, raw lyrics that speaks to the soul, vocals that are real- that let you know whats going on inside that persons head and heart. I love acoustic sounds, rap from the heart, vocals that uplift your soul and take you to a happy place.

I have a friend who sings beautiful acoustic soul music who I have mentioned previously on my blog- Delia Spiers. She is a very talented singer-songwriter whose songs often move me to tears. Often it is when we cry and when we are led to that emotion, that we experience a peace and strength unknown before. I find that Delia's music does that for me.

 (image:bridesanstulle.com)

Today I'm going to share the music of India Arie. I often speak about India because her whole philosophy is about spreading peace and love through the medium of music. Music is a vehicle for her of purity and truth. She has a very rare thing in the world of music- goodness combined with heartfelt lyrics and vocals.

Here is a song that will make you think about loving you, about taking time for you and to nourish your soul and spirit, Private Party. Lyrics start 'I'm having a private party, there's nobody here but me, my angels and my guitar...'. Enjoy xxx

Happy Wednesday! x

(image:via)
Happy Friday everyone! We've made it to the end of the week! Today I am having a reflective day...thinking about what I would like my future to be. Happiness Wednesday: Positivity Part Two

Hello friends,

 (image:teacupsandbuttondrops.blogspot.com)

I've been thinking a bit this week as to what to write on Happiness Wednesday. I toyed with writing about confidence and self esteem issues. Then today, I woke up and the sun was shining and my heart was filled with happiness and I thought... lets take it back to basics. Lets focus on positivity.

I have already written a previous article on thinking and focusing your mind on positive thoughts and optimism. Count your blessings every single day, as you wake and as you fall asleep. Pray to a higher source if you believe in God. Bless nature, bless food, bless your house and your family if you can, bless your friends, bless all the good things in your life and carry that strength and positivity with you during the day.

I want to state here that I am not a happiness expert. I have learnt the hard way through focusing negatively, through tears and pain, what it means to really think positively. I have taught myself how to do it and will continually because we truly only have one life. I would rather spend my life thinking happy thoughts than focusing on the worst things. This doesn't mean never focusing on the sad things, but it means not dwelling for longer than necessary.

Some of the most amazing people in life, lived through tragedy but managed to stay positive. Those people are inspirations to all of us.

And this morning I sat here, listening to my Joss Stone album and dreaming, thinking and I wrote the following little poem,
********************************

'Sunshine, sunflowers
Light and creativity
A mixture of hope, of dreams
Strengthening my heart.
Light streaming through a window
Soul music filling the air
Bringing love to a world of fear
You are with me, as the air swirls
Filling me with positivity.'- Eleanor S. (copyright)
************************************************

 (image:www.aquirkygirl.com)

How about you? How do you think positively, what are your tips?

Love and happiness!

My poetry has arrived!

Hi friends,

(image: from film One Day- via)

Sorry I havn't written in a few days- have been very busy! Saturday night I spent time with my girl friends and yesterday I went to see One Day at the cinema. Now, you will all know how much I love the book- the film really did not compare. I didn't find Anne Hathaway that good as Emma Morely however, Jim Sturgess as Dexter was incredible! He is a very talented actor who brought the writing to life. How hot does he look in the picture above! I still managed a little cry to myself through the film! :)
Also seen adverts for the Help movie, the other book I fell in love with and I can't wait to see that soon.

Have any of you seen One Day? What did you think?

*****************************************

Now I am going to share with you a poem I wrote over the weekend. I write poetry in my spare time, often when I am emotional or thinking deeply about something. It helps clarify my thoughts.. in images. I havn't shared my poetry before now because it is very personal to me, however this poem is quite a nice one I think.

I was just sitting down, processing after a busy day, after id heard and loved beautiful music, watched a film that had moved me and my heart was at peace.. but at the same time reflecting.

I hope you like it, would love to hear feedback.

After the Rain has fallen- By Eleanor S. (copyright: please do not repost without my permission)

I feel free
Just expressing myself through my pen
Through writing
And through music, its chords, its melodies
Through film that moves my heart
Bringing water drops
On to my cheeks
I like to be like that butterfly
That glows bright with colour
As it flies and wanders through the warm air...
Looking for the rainbow
After the rain has fallen.

In love with teacups.

(image:velvetcushion.com)

Hello everyone! Hope you're having a great week.

Today I am writing a post on a most random and actually quite quintessentially English topic- my love for teacups and teapots! Now, some of you will be thinking- what?? But I happen to find beautiful, vintage tea sets absolutely perfect.

Hopefully, when I have my own home I will have a large collection which will of course be used... because whats a tea set if not to have tea parties with many friends, cups of tea and biscuits or cakes!?

(image:vintagerosecollection.com)

Do you love teapots and tea sets as much as me? If so, and you live in the UK, a blogging tea party must of course be arranged. Happy Thursday :)

Happiness Wednesday: Getting Over Heartbreak

(image: vi.sualize.us)
Dear friends,

Today is Happiness Wednesday woop (cue the happy music!) lol. I hope you all have a happy day today. Last week I spoke about combatting our insecurities and finding self worth. And this week will be on a related topic, which is how to get over heartbreak.

If you've ever been in love or had a strong attachment to another person, you will know how hurtful and painful it can be when you break up or they leave you. I went through this myself some years ago with someone I was very much in love with. It was a very tough time for me, but I am glad to say I have come out of it stronger and wiser. At the time, all I could see was the sadness and the pain... and so if any of you are going through this, I'm going to share my advice.

1. You must forget the reasons you broke up, stop analysing them. Its over and you have to move forward in your life, they left or you broke up for a reason.

2. Heal yourself and your heart. Remember your dignity and don't run after your ex. Stay strong.... you can heal yourself in many ways. Obviously, the greatest healer of all is TIME. Time truly does give perspective and distance. But until you have the luxury of time, take bubble baths, make yourself look and feel beautiful even if inside you are breaking, chat with friends, watch TV or films you love. Most of all distract your mind.

3. If you have to focus on the pain- set yourself a time limit. Cry, punch pillows, write sad poems, sing. Do whatever it is to make you feel better and release that pain. Don't keep it all in. But don't wallow for days.. because this only serves to make your life worse. Why do that when there are so many beautiful things in the world to focus on? Find a release for your pain and move forward as best you can.

This pain may always be with you in some form. But you can suppress it, or release it and carry on with life. You are a wonderful, special individual who deserves happiness. Remember this.

4. Cut contact with your ex. I can't stress this enough. Delete their number, delete their facebook until you have found time to move forward. Maybe one day you will be friends but if its impossible, you need to move on. I found this part particularly difficult but it did me the WORLD of good.

5. Finally remember that 'This too shall pass'. You wont feel like this forever. People come into our lives for a reason and sometimes our soulmates come into our lives to enrich them or teach us a lesson and then they leave........and that is the way of life. Hold on to those lessons.

Lastly, some thoughts from India Arie,

'I have learned that fear and love don't match.

I have learned that there is nothing unacceptable about me when I have the courage and self love to accept everything about me. So will Another.

I have learned you must let things and people go to really enjoy them being in
your life.

I have learned that it only takes a moment to react out of love.

I have learned that sometimes people come in our lives to go and therein lies the lesson.

I have learned that honesty means being honest with me first.

I have learned that sex with the wrong person is horrible, but sex with the right person is exquisite! There is fulfillment in waiting.

I have learned that I must seize the day.

I have learned that my mother is a human being and a woman just like me and that I have things to teach her too.

I have learned that love doesnt make relationships last....

That is the secret of life,to get up and try again. Without love we are nothing. Keep the faith and open your heart to try again. To all those who have yet to have your heart cracked open, may this collection of songs show you the beauty in the complexity of the journey of love.

I have learned that it aint like the movies, its so much better.

And most of all I have learned that even in the darkest hour. This too shall pass.

India Arie.
'

I used to hate hearing the words 'Move on'... its ok to feel shattered, to feel weak but you need to find your inner strength....
Stay strong, stay dignified, stay powerful, stay YOU- the greater, wiser and more informed you..

Happy Wednesday xxxxxxx

Drama geek. x

(image: website)
Hi everyone! Happy Monday, hope you all had a good weekend?

Today I am being a total drama geek! I have a big reading list to get through for my masters degree in applied theatre, which starts in a few weeks so I am starting with book one by Helen Nicholson, Applied Drama, the Gift of Theatre.
I found a beautiful quote about theatre which I wanted to share with you all today to reflect on, it makes you think about life:

'A wider description of narrative would include the games, rehearsals or drama workshops which convey something of the messiness of reality and explore its incoherence and to which participants bring the complexity of their experiences of life, however fictionalised and incomplete'.

I love the comment on the messiness and incoherence of reality because life is always up and down and full of many shades of colours, so really when we create theatre we are incorporating all of life.

A thought for this sunny Monday.

Hello friends,

(image: purpleandpearls.co.uk)

And so we've made it to friday!!Yey. I have had a very busy past day and a half with family and friends. Now, I am looking forward to the weekend, relaxing and seeing my grandparents tonight.

I am also rather excited (because i am such a nerd haha) about buying my stationery for university. Particularly as my favourite shop Cath Kidston sells rather beauteous pencil cases like so,

So I think I will buy myself one of these as well as some cute folders. Anyone else going back to college and thinking of buying things?

Have a truly wonderful weekend all! My goals for this weekend are to read some drama and theatre books, perhaps see a film or two, rest and chill and catch up with friends. How about you? xx

Happiness Wednesday: Insecurities.

(image: blog)

Happy Wednesday! These are fast becoming my favourite posts of the week.... last week I spoke about the power of positive thinking which I have found to be very valuable in my life.

This week I have been thinking quite a lot about one thing.... insecurities. I often find the negative voice in my head to be wandering and telling me I'm not good enough, slim enough, attractive enough, clever enough, interesting enough. You have to quieten this voice and feed it with positive energy is what I have learnt. Ultimately, you have been made who you are- you are good enough, pretty enough, you have WORTH. Self-worth is so important and must be built upon for the foundation of a solid life.

If you find yourself feeling insecure remember the famous quote by India Arie. This quote calms my mind sometimes,

'Thankful for all my impurities and insecurities... because I know its God just perfecting me'

Even if you dont believe in God, this quote is great because it makes you think, you can use any negative trait, anything you worry about, for the ultimate good of your spirit and soul. You can become better and stronger and beat those niggling worries! You are good enough!

Have a happy week.

And remember, we all feel insecure...its how we respond to those insecurities that makes the difference.
